BEFORE DECEMBER
by Anna Schober
Christmas music should be listened to before Thanksgiving. In fact, you can even start listening to it in the beginning of October!
First of all, who cares when you start listening to Christmas music. It’s not like there needs to be a specific date to listen to it, such as “only after Thanksgiving.” No, we should be able to listen to whatever music we want to, without being judged. When someone listens to it before Thanksgiving, don’t judge them.
Christmas music is one of the best types of music! It is so joyful and happy, who wouldn’t want to listen to it a bit earlier than usual? It really lifts your spirit to hear a bit of the Christmas joy, even when you’re in the fall season. Plus, it could even change your whole mood for the day, by just listening to happy and cozy music. Also, it’s never too early to start, because you can have a longer Christmas high, and not just a shorter one. There’s nothing wrong with getting into the Christmas spirit a bit early. I mean, who wouldn’t? Christmas music and spirit makes us all happier!
Lastly, as soon as the coldness comes through those doors, it feels like winter. When it feels like winter, that’s when you know Christmas is coming! During September, it’s usually not too cold, but when November hits it already feels like Christmas is on its way! While Christmas is on its way, of course we should start listening to Christmas music! Listening beforehand, is preparing us for the cheerful season to come. It never hurts anyone to listen to some happy and comforting Christmas music before thanksgiving!
AT THE START OF DECEMBER
by Adalberto Garcia
hat makes something that comes only once a year special and meaningful? The time that you have to wait for said thing to come.
Christmas only comes once a year, at the end of the year; and in my opinion should last no longer than a month; that is what makes it so exciting for it to come. Christmas music, to an extent, works the same way. So when should the season of Christmas music start? I believe that as a whole, Christmas music shouldn’t be played until after Thanksgiving, ideally not until the start of December.
This not only saves and builds up excitement, but also prevents exhaustion. If you ask many people, they will tell you that Christmas music is not only repetitive and all the same, but also kind of annoying. Whether you agree or not, I’m sure you can concur that no matter what a thing may be, constant repetition, exposure and smothering of said thing is tiring and irritating.
This is not to say that you shouldn’t listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, or that you need to wait until a certain date, you can listen to whatever you want whenever you want; but rather that it shouldn’t be played out loud, and overextended.
When Christmas music is playing in shopping mall speakers all day long and on the radio 24/7 it outstays its welcome. No one wants to listen to the same type of music since November or even October. No one wants to hear six hundred covers of the same ten songs.
Waiting to listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving or the start of December is not just simpler and practical, but also more rewarding. As stated before, you can do whatever you want, but don’t over-exhaust your Christmas. Is something really as special when it takes up sixty or ninety days of the year, or is some of its value taken away?
