The CAYA Eagles Volleyball team finished in first place for the second time in three years at last weeks Union College Invitational Tournament. After hitting a rough patch early in losses to Campion Academy and Greater Miami Academy, the Eagles rallied to put forth a winning effort for the rest of the tournament. “We started off playing really bad but then we put all of skills together and started working as a team,” Senior, Gabby Fowler said regarding the team’s play. CAYA ended the tournament with 3 straight victories without dropping a set. They ultimately defeated Greater Miami, the defending champions, in the championship match with a game score of 2-0. The team was led by 2nd team All-Tournament player Veronica Hayes and 1st team All-Tournament players Gabby Fowler and Emily Wilt. “It was great,” Wilt said, “I can’t believe we won two times in my four years on the team.” The CAYA Eagles look to continue their run of success in the SCAA Tournament next week.
