CAYA Basketball Games Kick Off New Season With Jamboree

The CAYA Eagles basketball teams begin the new season on Monday, November 11. To kick off the season, they will get back into action with the annual basketball Jamboree. The games begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 9th, continuing to the following Sunday, and all three Greater Collegedale School System gymnasiums will be occupied for the event.

Before the games begin, the CAYA teams and the Georgia-Cumberland Academy teams (CA’s longtime rival), will join together for an outreach activity held in downtown Chattanooga. After the outreach, the Lady Eagles varsity team will begin the Jamboree by playing against a CA alumni team in the gymnasium at Spalding, while the varsity boys start out against Mount Pisgah Academy in CA’s gym.

Other participants include teams from Atlanta Adventist Academy and Greater Atlanta Adventist Academy.

The boys’ varsity team lost some key seniors from last year, so this team has quite a few new players. Senior Ryan Moore, who is a fourth year starter and playing small forward this year, says he feels pretty good about the new team going into the season.“It’s a new team with a lot of freshman,” he remarks, “But we’re doing pretty well so far. I think there will be a lot of learning experiences, but I feel like we can win a lot of games this year.”

Moore adds that he believes that the team is solid as a whole, with athleticism as its strong point. Speaking to a group of students, Moore promised “a dunk each game from the team, and a trophy that says number 1,” he urged them to “come out and support. Get crazy.”

The highlight of the Jamboree weekend is the games against CA’s rival, the GCA Jaguars. Both the boys and girls’ teams will face GCA at 9:30 p.m. in the CA gymnasium. Students can get in free and are asked to wear plenty of red for a “red-out.”
