Mrs. Marquez and her husband organized a medical mission trip to Costa Rica, from October 11 to 18, 2024. Students in this mission trip served in clinics to look after local communities, participated in VBS, and interacted with the residents of Isla Venado.
The doctors on staff were Mrs. Marquez’s husband, Dr. Obadias Marquez, Blaire Terrell, a PA, and a local physician from the church, Dr. Paola. CA students assisted the doctors in several medical stations, including: first station – check vitals, second station – blood sugar/glucose levels, third station – urinary analysis, fourth station – consultry, where the doctors could diagnose patients if needed and then the patient could go to the pharmacy to receive any necessary medications. The team was also able to perform some small surgical procedures like removing skin tags and lipomas.
Several students who attended this mission trip say they would do it again and loved their experiences. Senior Lesley Imuro says, “I would go back 100%. It was very fun. It was such a fun experience and you get to do a lot…I would recommend it to anyone who’s interested in anything medical or even business.”
In light of the blessings received from the people in Costa Rica, students are grateful to have gone on such a journey, where they’ve discovered certainty for future paths to take – or not take. Mrs. Marquez states, “Most students said this had an impact on their future plans. Not all students are going into the medical field and this also helped reassure them that they were on the right path for themselves.”
