CA has not had a girl’s soccer team for several years, but this year, the school has reestablished an all-girl’s soccer team. Despite losing their first two games, the girls have worked hard by practicing three times a week. Their efforts paid off in their game against Sequatchie, winning 6-2. Five of those points were scored by Freshman Gabby Rayburn.

This team has been two years in the making, and have had practices all summer long to prepare for this season. The goal is not only to play well, but to cement a girls soccer team as a permanent sport at CA. There are currently 18 girls playing, including 10 Freshmen, 5 Juniors, and 3 Seniors. Seniors Ellie Hocking, Lexi Kauffman, and Junior Izzy Mendoza are the team captains, working with coaches Josue Mendoza and Kelly Loeffler.

According to Ellie Hocking, “It [the team] has been a great way to meet underclassmen which has been super fun.” Goalie Lexi Kauffman hopes that the team gets stronger, closer, and that this program continues.

Overall, the girls soccer team is an exciting addition to the sports program at Collegedale Academy. To support and encourage the growth of this sport, come out to the games and support the team!

*The original version of this story identified this year’s soccer team as the first girl’s soccer team at CA. This was incorrect and changes have been made.
