Lady Eagles fall to Lady Hawks
The CAYA girls varsity basketball team lost to the Hamilton Heights Lady Hawks 48-29 on Tuesday, November 19, at Hamilton’s home court. The Lady Eagles 21-point loss is much improved compared to their 60 to 20 loss last year against the Hawks.
Hamilton Heights is almost always an expected loss for CAYA. Their boys’ and girls’ teams recruit players from many foreign countries including Lithuania and Nigeria, and many of their athletes are being recruited nationally by colleges.
Despite the loss, there were plenty of positives for the Eagles.
“We played well on defense, we hustled a lot, and we made more plays on offense, like hitting our free throws,” junior Mara Messinger said, “we still had some sloppy passes and didn’t take some shots we should have though.”
The Hawk’s tallest player is 6’3” and averages 17 points a game but was held to only 7 points on Tuesday. Still, they are an imposing team to play.
“They’re huge, and fast, and really physical, overall they are really tall,” said Messinger.
Despite the loss, Messinger said it was a fun game. The Lady Eagles next game before Thanksgiving break will be on Thursday night at CA against GAAA at 6:30 p.m.
