Collegedale Academy has established new rules and regulations for the 2024-2025 school year. Around the school lots of students have been saying different things about the school rules, and there have been some complaints; but here are some useful and helpful suggestions for the new school rules and the plans to build a larger school. Collegedale Academy High School has 380 students that are all like a big family. Although some may disagree, these changes were necessary because of safety issues, and the board had decided to enforce its school policies more strictly; since things had laxed during COVID. One of the few new rules in school is the backpack rule. The backpack rule is basically when students aren’t allowed to take their backpacks to class due to it being a safety risk. Students are meant to keep their backpacks and books all in their locker, and visit their lockers before each class. One of the complaints of this rule is that students have to walk all the way to their locker sometimes across the building and then try to get to class on time within 5 minutes. One solution the school could help students with is making the hallway passing time longer since students also need bathroom breaks and water breaks during this time period. On the other hand, students can try to take tote bags to class if they need to carry their books across the building.
Another rule change is the updated attendance policy. Once you get to 14 absences in a semester, your grade drops down a letter. Also, if you get 3 unexcused tardies it counts as one absence. With this rule, one of the main things would be to make sure your school schedule isn’t missing too many days and plan ahead on your calendar; because you never know when you will get sick in the future or when you have an emergency and you can’t go to school that day. With tardies, try your best to get to class on time, though teachers should also be more understanding with tardies, because of the new backpack rule.
Another big change the school will hopefully be undergoing, is making the school bigger. When we do build the school larger, we should make the lockers more spaced out since students are so clumped together in the mornings. Another suggestion the school should take into consideration when making the school bigger is that they should maybe have bigger heating vents in the hallways since students are always cold during the winter in school. Having warm hallways will help the students not try to bring blankets to school which breaks the school rules. Next, a useful improvement would be adding more windows inside the hallways to make our school lighter since the school seems a bit dreary inside some days. The natural light and vitamin D also boosts happiness rather than glumness. Lastly, students would love to have more outside seating for lunch. With a larger outside area students wouldn’t have to be so crowded inside the diner, and the line to buy lunch wouldn’t be as long .
Overall, Collegedale Academy is a great school and family to be with. The renovations and suggestions were all my opinions, and hopefully will help the school or even you throughout the year!
