On Sunday, September 15 the junior class went on their annual trip to Washington DC. This trip consisted of 6 days of going to museums, games, stores, and loads of fun! Coach White was in charge of the entire trip, and made sure we were all together as a class.
The juniors first stop was in Jamestown, Virginia where they learned about the Native Americans and the first English settlers of the Americas. Later on that day they traveled down to Yorktown, Virginia to learn more about how the English lived their day to day lives, and how they used tobacco as a way of living. The juniors observed how Englishmen went to war, what they ate, and the houses that they had lived in. Their next stop was to Colonial Williamsburg where they learned about early life for enslaved people and the lives of the rich landowners. At the end of the day they headed on over to an interactive play called “Cry Witch” where students got to learn about the Salem witch trials. Junior Amelie Lopez states that “I thought ‘Cry Witch’ was extremely interesting and intense the whole time, and kept a very dense atmosphere.” To wrap up their first day they all headed back to the hotel for their daily nighttime worship led by Coach White and a prayer led by class pastor Lila Loeffler.
On Tuesday the juniors headed to Washington D.C where they visited and toured the capital. They also visited the Smithsonian museum, with all the ancient artifacts of the world. At night they all got together again for their evening worship.
On Wednesday they visited the Arlington National cemetery, where they viewed the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and had the opportunity to watch the unnamed soldier ceremony. Afterwards, they headed to the World War II Museum. At the Holocaust Museum, students were able to learn how the Nazis had treated the Jews and the horrendous living conditions Jews were put in. As they went around the museum students were able to watch video clips around the museum of the war, and of the Nazis during the rise of Hitler. When the students were finished they headed on over to Baltimore to watch the Orioles vs Giants baseball game. Students enjoyed the night as they got to watch the Giants win against the Orioles. Junior Lynette Elenes says she was pleased with how the night ended; “I enjoyed how loud the atmosphere was, and the adrenaline rush that came with the game that night.”
Early Thursday morning students were awakened by a hotel fire alarm. Fortunately, there was no danger, and students were soon let back inside. Students visited the Planet Word Museum and the National Law Enforcement Museum. At Planet Word, students enjoyed karaoke and being able to talk to AI in any language. On the other hand, students enjoyed the law enforcement exhibits, including police simulators and discovering the different tools that police officers have used historically and currently Afterwards students all met up at the Museum of the Bible, where they learned all about Bible history and the depth of how the Bible was created into its modern form today. To finish off the day students all went to Hard Rock Cafe where the school paid for their dinner. Junior walked around a few memorials such as the Abraham Lincoln Memorial and the National World War II Memorial.
The Junior Trip this year left the students with lots of memories and laughs! Thankyou Collegedale Academy for supporting this trip, and for all the teachers who helped watch over the juniors.
