Devotional: Praise God in Everything

Cheyenne Roth, Writer

Have you ever had a really bad day? I’m not talking about a moment that is bad, but a moment that leads into another bad thing and another. I’m talking about a day where it seems like nothing is going right and everything just adds on to make the first bad thing worse. It seems like you’re drowning and you can’t get out of all the stress and hurt you are feeling. The stress keeps weighing you down and it seems like you will never get through it. The cycle keeps going through your head. It feels like you are the only ones in this position and everyone else’s day is going amazing, which only makes things worse. It’s a chain reaction and it’s so easy to focus on all the negativity.

When we focus on the negativity in our lives, it’s easy to see all the bad things that happen so often. We need to step back and realize everybody goes through bad days. It’s how we look at life that matters. When we focus on the positive things in our life, no matter how small, life seems to get a bit better. It could be being thankful that it didn’t rain or that someone greeted you in the hall.

If you focus on those small and good things, the things that seemed so bad and unbearable to handle tend to fade. In those moments where nothing is working out right, God wants to reach out and take our burdens. He wants us to call him closer in prayer and praise him for all the good things He sent for us to enjoy. In James 5:13 it says, “ Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.” God wants us to praise him in all circumstances. He is willing and able to get us through any trial we face. Whenever you feel down, call out to God for help. He will save you.
