Happy Little Life: Standing underneath an umbrella during a rainstorm
May 18, 2017
There’s nothing more satisfying than standing in the middle of a torrential downpour and not getting the slightest bit wet.
You peak your head slightly out of your umbrella and catch a few on your nose. You hear the relaxing sounds of pittering rain falling to the earth. You see the lightning crash and hear the thunder as it mutters its final word.
Standing under an umbrella during a rainstorm is much like our walk with Jesus. All around us we see gloom and hardship, but underneath God’s caring arms we are safe and unscathed. God takes every blow thrown at us and the blame of sin.
Sometimes we say, “God I can do this on my own. I don’t need you. It can’t be that hard.” And only when God lifts the umbrella away do we realize how much He does for us, how much he sacrifices for us, and how much he cares for us. So next time you’re in a rainstorm, stop for a second and remember God’s promise to us: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.’” Psalms 91:1-2 NKJV
