4 tips to help you survive finals
May 3, 2017
It’s that time of year again, and finals are just around the corner. Before you start getting all worked up, here are four tips to help you get through finals:
- Study with friends
Although it might seem counterproductive at first, studying with a friend or group of friends is a great way to ensure that you stay on task and actually get stuff done. At home, it’s easy to get distracted and bored while studying and direct your attention to another subject, such as your Instagram feed or a Netflix show. Having a study partner balances work with fun, making the process of studying for finals a little less unbearable, and a little less stressful.
- Get plenty of sleep
Sleep is essential in order to succeed during finals. Period. Getting a good amount of sleep allows your brain to rest and recharge so you can focus during the day. For teenagers, it is recommended to get around 7-8 hours of sleep a night, but the more the better. So even though pulling a full-out-studying-all-nighter session might be you first instinct, I encourage you put down the books, and catch some z’s.
- Set aside some personal chill time
Studying for hours and hours straight without a break is a recipe for disaster. It can be pretty straining on your brain and on your sanity. When studying, make sure to take breaks periodically to help keep you focused. You can do things such as exercising, going outside, listening to music, or whatever else makes you happy!
- And finally . . . relax. You can do this!
