Regain the fire of the early church
December 16, 2016
“Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:2-4, NIV).
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost came in the form of fire. God intended his followers to be on fire for Him, and the early church was indeed on fire for God. Persecution could not stamp out their flames, and like a wildfire the message of the Gospel spread.
I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that much of the early church was made of young people. Youths have energy, passion, and motivation. These characteristics were perfect for spreading the news of Christ’s life, death, resurrection, and teachings.
As teenagers, we often complain about how dead the church is. However, we have the ability to breathe fiery life back into our churches. We can bring back the passion of the early church of Acts.
