No Man is an Island
September 9, 2016
“No man is an island, let your guard down. Please don’t try to fight me, I am for you. We’re not meant to live this life alone.”
How true the words of this song – “No Man is an Island” by Tenth Avenue North – ring. We convince ourselves that we are strong enough to stand alone. We mask our struggles and feel vulnerable and threatened when someone sees through our defenses. When we realize our weakness, we ask God for help; we forget that He often sends help in the form of our friends, family, teachers, or classmates.
As Christians, we are commanded to help each other, and as humans we are destined to be in need of help. Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (ESV).
Allow others to carry your burdens, and in turn share their load. We aren’t meant to live an isolated, island life. We’re meant to live together.
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:4, ESV).
