Sing the songs of our youth
September 5, 2016
Have you ever gotten one of those catchy tunes that we used to learn in Sabbath school as children stuck in your head? “He’s Got The Whole World” or “Be Careful Little Eyes” often find their way into my mind.
Only a few months ago, however, did I really stop and think about the lyrics. I realized something. The songs we learned as children have more relevance as teenagers than they ever did as kids.
It’s now, when we are being swamped with life and everything is pulling us down that we need to be reminded that “He’s got the whole world, in His hands, He’s got the whole world, in His hands, . . . He’s got you and me sister/brother, in His hands. . .” It’s also now that we need to be reminded that what we watch, what we hear, and what we say, impact a lot more people than just ourselves.
Every song we ever learned, every song that ingrained itself into our heads, has a message. A more relevant message now than ever before. We need only to remember the songs of our youth.
