Collegedale Academy students compile a devotional book

Xander Orquia, writer

Throughout the 2015-2016 school year, a devotional book has been in the process of being compiled featuring devotional thoughts from every student at Collegedale Academy. Senior Mathilda Nafie leads this project, and I spoke to her to get insight on the details.

A hardcopy will be available next school year to current students and 2016 graduates. The devotional book will be displayed at Academy Days over the next few years and at booths at various school-related events.

English teachers Ms. Macias, Mrs. Holland and Mrs. Darmody have also been heavily involved in the making of the book. They scheduled time in their classes to make the devotionals  an assignment. The individual devotionals were then emailed to a specific address, then edited. Finally, they were sent to College Press, a printing company in Collegedale, where they will be put into one solid book.

When asked why she wanted to take on such a behemoth of a project, Nafie said, “I know that a lot of people have stories to tell, but maybe they don’t feel called to speak up front, so I thought it would be a good way to let those people express themselves through writing and pictures.”
