It may have been a chilly day on Sunday, November 8, but that didn’t stop the community from coming out and giving the race their all.

This is the fourth year that the Greater Collegedale School System has hosted the Sandy Erickson 5K and Fun Run to raise money for Worthy Students. The race is hosted in honor of former A.W. Spalding teacher Mrs. Erickson and the impact she made on her students’ lives.

This year there were new pre-race activities for families to enjoy such as face painting, hair painting, and blow-up slides.

This year’s winner of the 5k race was Daniel Mihaescu with a time of 18:03.

Jonathan Erickson, Sandy Erickson’s son, was just a few seconds behind Daniel with a time of 18:07. Rusty McKee came in third with a time of 20:14.

The whole family of Sandy Erickson was able to come out and support by running the race.
