Safety Tips for Driving in Hazardous Weather
With the South recently becoming a formidable winter wonderland, more drivers than ever are having difficulty commuting.
Here are a few key tips that will help you stay safe in icy or snowy weather:
Decrease your speed to considerably lower than normal, and allow at least three times more distance between you and the car ahead of you so you have plenty of time to stop.
Use the brakes in a gentle manner so as to avoid skidding. If your brakes lock up, ease off the brake pedal.
Turn your lights on so other cars can see you quickly and easily, and keep your windshield and lights as clean as possible.
Never use cruise control on icy roads. Be especially cautious on bridges and overpasses, as these areas tend to freeze first.
Be careful. Avoid being overconfident and assuming your car can handle any conditions.
